Accounts Assistant

Our client is an industry leading transport business operating across more than 10 sites, with annual turnover exceeding £80m. Still family owned, they've built their reputation on long-term relationships, sustainable growth and looking after their people. Based from their Preston head office, you'll join a close-knit finance team that will support your development and help you take the next step in your accounting career. How you'll spend your time Reporting to the Head of Finance, you'll support the wider finance function across a varied role that will give you exposure to both transactional accounting and month-end activities. Your responsibilities will include: • Supporting the month-end close process alongside the Assistant Management Accountant • Assisting with accruals and prepayments • Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts • Processing purchase ledger and sales ledger transactions when required • Assisting with payroll administration and processing • Handling petty cash claims and company credit card reconciliations • Supporting VAT returns and related tax documentation • Maintaining accurate financial records and filing systems • Providing ad hoc support to the wider finance team • Ensuring confidentiality and accuracy across all financial information What we're looking for • Currently studying towards AAT • At least 1-2 years' experience within an accounting or finance role • Experience of transactional finance processes including purchase ledger, sales ledger or reconciliations • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting software • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills • A proactive attitude and genuine desire to develop a career in finance • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team What's in it for you • £25,000 - £26,000 • Bi-Annual bonus • Ongoing training and mentorship from an experienced Head of Finance • AAT study support • Exposure to month-end accounting and management accounts • Friendly and supportive team environment • Pension scheme • On-site parking • Long-term career progression opportunities within a growing business What's next?
