MAIN DUTIES:
• Working as part of a busy team, process incoming calls, emails and hard copy information requests accurately and appropriately.
• Work as an effective and responsible team member, supporting others and exploring the mechanisms to develop new ways of working.
• Daily, accurate data entry and processing using SystmOne and other databases.
• Ensuring high levels of confidentiality and information governance in your work.
• Effective communication with clinical and administration teams, and external contacts.
• Ability to make judgements on issues and when to refer onto more senior staff or Clinicians.
• Flexibility in approach to work tasks, able to prioritise a busy workload.
• Providing cover for colleagues in the BSU.
• Achieve set targets and Key Performance Indicators.
• Complete relevant training, including for research activity, and participate in team meetings.
• Occasional travel to practices and face to face patient contact.
GENERAL ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

• Understand own role and scope in the organisation and identify how this may develop over time.

• Work with the BSU ensuring that quality and compliance are maintained when dealing with practice/patient administration.
• Be flexible and adaptable to changing requirements in the BSU and wider PICS team, including the need to cover absence or in times of high demand.
Management of Risk
The post holder must comply with all PICS policies and procedures which aim to ensure safe practice and minimise risk. This includes:
• Infection control / needlestick Protecting themselves and others against infection risks. All staff regardless of whether clinical or not are expected to comply with current infection control policies and procedures and to report any problems regarding this to the manager. All staff should attend infection control training and updates as required.
• Health and safety / COSHH policy
• Fire policy
• Incident reporting policy
• NIHR policy/processes including consent/GCP
• AMRA/GDPR
Communication / Utilising Information Systems:
• Ability to communicate clearly by telephone, email, and letter.
• Ability to deal calmly with patients in distress or who exhibit challenging behaviour.
• Ability to recognise when someone is having difficulty understanding or communicating and respond appropriately.
• Able to work with confidential information and understand when consent must be gained to discuss confidential information.
• Able to process data securely in line with data protection regulations.
• Contribute to the work of the BSU and practice teams in by utilising the data from SystmOne and other information systems to ensure activity is recorded and improve care.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
