Advanced Practitioner / Senior Social Worker - Families First (Child in Need) • Role: Advanced Practitioner (Children's Services) • Service: Families First - Child in Need (CIN) Locality Service • Location: Trafford Council (Various borough locations / Hybrid Working) • Pay Rate: £37.00 per hour • Contract: Full-Time, Ongoing Interim Contract Are you an experienced, high-calibre senior practitioner with a passion for mentoring others and driving frontline practice standards? Trafford Council is seeking an inspirational Advanced Practitioner / Senior Social Worker to join their newly structured Families First service. Working on a locality basis, this specialised service has been specifically designed to elevate the status of Child in Need work, strengthening the quality of assessments and ensuring a robust, consistent, and supportive approach for families across the entire borough. Role Overview & Leadership ResponsibilitiesAs an Advanced Practitioner, your role will be split between managing a high-quality, complex workload and providing vital practice leadership within your locality team: • Practice Leadership & Mentoring: Act as a practice champion by coaching, supporting, and supervising designated team staff or student social workers, actively guiding their professional development. • Complex Case Management: Hold a highly manageable, varied caseload of families supported through Child in Need planning, delivering exemplary relationship-focused intervention. • Duty & Frontline Assessment: Participate in the team duty rota, leading on Section 47 child protection enquiries and completing comprehensive, analytical Child and Family assessments. • Relational & Strengths-Based Practice: Build meaningful, trusting partnerships with families to safely and effectively step down statutory plans in alignment with the families' own timescales. Mandatory Candidate Criteria • Professional Registration: Must be a Qualified Social Worker with an active, valid Social Work England registration. • Advanced Practice Expertise: Significant post-qualifying experience within statutory Child Protection, Duty & Assessment, or Child in Need services. • Supervisory Experience: Proven experience or the clear capability to mentor, coach, or formally supervise less experienced staff, newly qualified social workers (ASYEs), or students. • Analytical Skills: Exceptional assessment, decision-making, and report-writing skills, with a deep understanding of thresholds and risk management.
