Job description

Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm (Mon–Fri), Term-Time Only Location: Alternative Provision Contract: Full-Time We are seeking an empathetic, motivated, and resilient Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant to support young people who cannot access mainstream education due to SEN, SEMH, medical needs, or while awaiting specialist school placement. This is a rewarding role for someone passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers, build confidence, and succeed through tailored, therapeutic learning sessions. Role OverviewYou will deliver 1:1 and small-group support to help students progress academically, emotionally, and socially. Working closely with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals, you will ensure each young person receives the right support at the right time. Key Responsibilities • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils • Support 1:1 and small-group learning and regulation activities • Assist in planning and delivering therapeutic-based learning sessions • Celebrate progress and help pupils work towards personal goals • Support pupils through transitions and reintegration where appropriate • Keep accurate records and contribute to multi-agency planning • Uphold safeguarding and maintain a warm, professional approach What We’re Looking For • Passion for supporting young people with diverse and complex needs • Patient, calm, and able to build rapport with pupils who may struggle with trust • Resilient, proactive, and able to work well within a multi-disciplinary team • Strong communication skills and a reflective, solutions-focused mindset Essential Qualifications & Experience • 5 GCSEs including Maths & English (grade 4–9 or equivalent) • Experience building positive relationships with young people/families • Experience raising attainment for SEND students • Strong understanding of safeguarding If you want to make a real difference and be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team, apply today and help shape a brighter future for the pupils who need it most.
