Job description

MRD Recruitment is currently recruiting an Assistant Buyer for one of our construction clients based in South Lanarkshire. Our client, a well-established and growing construction company, is looking to recruit an Assistant Buyer to join their commercial and procurement team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within construction purchasing, working alongside experienced professionals on a variety of exciting projects. The successful candidate will support the buying function by sourcing materials, liaising with suppliers, and ensuring projects receive the right products at the right time and cost. Key Responsibilities • Assist with the procurement of construction materials, plant, and subcontract services. • Obtain and compare supplier quotations to ensure best value. • Raise purchase orders and monitor deliveries to meet project deadlines. • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders. • Resolve supply issues and proactively identify alternative sourcing solutions. • Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier information. • Support senior buyers with negotiations and supplier performance reviews. • Work closely with site teams to ensure procurement requirements are met efficiently. • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company procedures and budgets. Requirements • Previous experience in a purchasing, buying, procurement, or supply chain role. • Construction industry experience is highly desirable. • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail. • Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships. • Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills. • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. • Experience using procurement or ERP systems would be advantageous. • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
