Job description
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Assistant Director of Economic Development to lead the development and delivery of ambitious economic growth initiatives.
The successful candidate will bring significant senior-level experience within economic development, with a proven track record of shaping and implementing economic growth strategies that drive investment, regeneration, and sustainable prosperity. They will have worked closely with Combined Authorities and key regional stakeholders, influencing policy and securing outcomes that support long-term growth.
Key Requirements
• Extensive experience working within Economic Development at a strategic leadership level.
• Proven success in leading the development of economic growth plans, strategies, and programmes.
• Experience of operating at a senior level with Combined Authorities, local authorities, and regional partners.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across public, private, and third-sector organisations.
• Demonstrable experience of translating economic priorities into deliverable programmes and investment opportunities.
Desirable ExperienceThe ideal candidate will also have knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Business Rates Retention schemes and their role in supporting local growth.
• Development Company models and alternative delivery vehicles.
• Development and implementation of spatial plans and place-based growth strategies.
• Leading inward investment activity and promoting locations to investors and businesses.
• Funding structures and financial models that support economic growth, regeneration, and infrastructure delivery.
• Securing and managing public and private sector investment.
• Economic regeneration, town centre renewal, and place-making initiatives.
