Job description

Act as autonomous practitioner to triage, assess, examine and treat the nature & extent of injury/ illness for each patient. To assess those that are acutely unwell & arrange any immediate treatment (within guidelines) & safe transfer to the most appropriate facility. Use clinical tools such as X-ray. To know when to request and how to interpret, making independent judgement on the diagnosis and treatment of fractures and seeking further opinion when required. To use & develop skills to include tissue adhesives, suturing, administration of injections including infiltration of local anaesthetic, manipulation of pulled elbows, digits, plastering. Able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of Patient Group Directions available for a range of presenting conditions in the absence of a Non-Medical Prescriber qualification. Demonstrate sound knowledge of the administration of drugs for analgesia or treatment within the Units. To supervise & mentor additional members of the team as required such as Nurse Practitioners, HCAs, student nurses & paramedic practitioners. This to include appraisals & sign off mentoring. To demonstrate personal & professional development and undertake training where required within agreed timescales.
