Job Title: Lymphoedema Therapist (Bank)
Reports to:Senior Physiotherapist (Oncology)/ Lead Physiotherapist
Accountable to:Therapy Manager

Role Summary:
The post-holder will be a qualified and experienced lymphoedema therapist able to undertake all aspects of your clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. You will provide a client-centred and evidence-based service to adult patients (mostly outpatients but may also include some inpatients) for the management of their lymphoedema. You will provide MLD/SLD, compression (including multi-component bandaging and hosiery) and education on skincare and exercise within the scope of your qualification and experience. Compression garments and other stock required will be decided upon by you. Most patients seen are for secondary lymphoedema, however we accept primary lymphoedema referrals, and lipoedema and vascular referrals at our discretion.
You will ensure clear and efficient communication, whether verbal, non-verbal or written, both in expression and active listening, to facilitate comprehension of information.
You will promote and adhere to all hospital and departmental Policies and Procedures.
You will take responsibility for promoting and ensuring Health and Safety and cleanliness across the department and hospital, and complying with infection control.
You will support Bupa's vision, mission statement, code and values.
Clinical
To be responsible for the lymphoedema management of patients referred to you and to practise as an autonomous and accountable professional using reflective practise and clinical reasoning to provide an individualised treatment programme for each patient.
If clinically appropriate, to be responsible for the management of patients referred to you with lipidoema or vascular concerns, and to practise as an autonomous and accountable professional using reflective practise and clinical reasoning to provide an individualised treatment programme for each patient.
To obtain informed, valid consent on an ongoing basis which endeavours to keep them involved in their own health care plan. This includes education to support ongoing management.
To communicate condition-related information to patients, relatives and carers and use appropriate methods to address barriers to communication.
To deal sensitively and empathetically with distressing or emotional circumstances regarding patient care.
To include and liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team to best support and care for the patient.
To ensure ongoing and long-term care for the patient by liaising with external support services and other clinicians.
To comply with confidentiality policies as set out by Cromwell Hospital (CH), HCPC and the CSP.
To respect a patients right to be chaperoned and appropriately implement the hospital chaperone policy.
To accept accountability for your clinical and non-clinical actions.
To maintain accurate, comprehensive and timely patient treatment records and reports in line with local and national requirements for best management of the patient.
To manage clinical risk within your caseload and ensure potential clinical risk is effectively communicated and managed.
To promote dignity, privacy, and safety, with consideration of the patients cultural, spiritual and personal needs and preferences.
To maintain the highest standards of professional expertise and efficiency.
To be aware of the limitations of your own clinical practice/experience and seek support appropriately.
To support the ongoing development of the lymphoedema service provision.
To keep abreast of the latest evidence within your specialty in order to promote best clinical practise
To act as an expert clinical advisor and lead on the implementation, development and review of appropriate protocols, guidelines and programmes.
To act as a resource of specialist advice for patients, clients and colleagues within the scope of your experience and knowledge.
Training and Education
To complete all Mandatory Training, online or face-to-face, according to hospital policy
To familiarise yourself with the hospital and departmental policies and procedures as relevant to your service
To take responsibility for your own personal development and to identify and utilise potential learning opportunities in order to continue to meet the needs of your patients and colleagues. Evidence of this should be reflected in your continued professional development portfolio which aims to support successful audit and re-registration by the HCPC.
To be aware of the safety regulations pertaining to departmental equipment that you intend to use.
To keep abreast of current development in your area of specialism and ensure ongoing CPD.
To be aware of current legal issues affecting your practise.
To follow and maintain safe manual handling principles and policies.
To complete risk assessments prior to any clinical activity where there is a risk involved and to document these thoroughly.
Administration
To ensure compliance with the Hospital and Therapy departments charging policies and to be responsible for the completion of thorough and accurate charging documentation.
To be familiar with the departments and equipment relevant to your work.
To ensure good professional relationships with patients and their loved ones, hospital staff, consultants, and visitors.
To promote Therapy services within the Hospital and beyond through your conduct.
To be aware of and comply with Bupa and Cromwell expectations and requirements on presentation and general behaviour.
To aid and implement hospital safety and security procedures and to apply these to all aspects of your work.
To be responsible for initiating discussions with the Therapy Manager or your line manager about any concerns or situations that may prevent you from meeting your job description requirements.
Wellbeing, Health & Safety
• Be aware of, and conversant with, the Health and Safety at Work Act and comply with the regulations set down to ensure safety to patients, visitors and colleagues.
• To record all incidents, near misses, concerns, complaints and compliments according to Hospital policy.
• To be aware of and adhere to the health and safety policies at Cromwell Hospital in order to maintain, develop and support an environment and culture that promotes wellbeing, health and safety. This requires a collective responsibility for promoting and ensuring these practices are implemented to all contact with patients, customers, the public, colleagues and yourself through vigilance and a commitment to Health and Safety.
• To utilise departmental procedures which strives to minimise risk i.e., COSHH, risk assessments, maintenance programmes and training.
• To take responsibility for reporting any issues seen as a risk or a potential risk and to report this to the Therapy Manager.
• To ensure that you are competent in the use of all appropriate therapy equipment and can provide users with correct and safe instructions in the use of such equipment.
• To ensure that all equipment used in patient care and treatment is safe and fit for use.
• To identify and report any health care issues that may affect your ability to work or increase the risk to your own health.
Integrated Governance
Understand implications of Integrated Governance and adhere to hospital governance policies including the reporting of incidences, near misses.
• Ensure compliance to standards in respect of all legislative requirements, including but not limited to CQC, SHE, DSE, Fire, COSHH, BLS, Manual Handling, Safeguarding Children & Adults, Information Security and Infection Prevention and Control.
Maintain safe working practices and adhere to clinical risk management policy and recommendations.
• Adopt the correct administrative procedures when dealing with complaints from patients/relatives following set policies and procedures.
• To participate in service development and governance activities as required and as able.
Infection Prevention and Control
Infection prevention and control is an essential aspect of patient care. All post holders have a personal obligation to act to reduce Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAIs). They must attend mandatory training in infection prevention and control and be compliant with all measures required by the Hospital to reduce HCAIs. Post holders must be familiar with the Hospitals Infection Prevention and Control Policies, including those that apply to their duties, such as the Hand Hygiene Policy, the Uniform Policy and Personal Protective Equipment Policy. Post holders who have clinical responsibilities must incorporate into their clinical activities up-to-date evidence that supports safe infection control practices and procedures, for example the use of clean/ aseptic techniques and the safe disposal of sharps.
Confidentiality and Disclosure of Information
In the course of your normal work, you will come into possession of confidential information concerning patients, Cromwell Hospital and it staff. This information should be treated confidentially and in accordance with Cromwell Hospitals policy and the Data Protection Act (1998) and European Union regulations.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring that he/she maintains the integrity and quality of both computerised and manual data.
Health Clearance
