Bank Vaccinator

Job purposeTo support the safe and effective delivery of seasonal flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccination programmes, primarily during October and November. The postholder will work as part of the vaccination team which sits within the Nursing Team, administering intramuscular vaccinations in accordance with current clinical guidance, local procedures and the appropriate legal framework. Main duties and responsibilities • Undertake appropriate pre-vaccination checks, including confirming eligibility, consent and any contraindications. • Administer intramuscular vaccinations safely and competently. • Provide patients with clear information about the vaccination and possible side effects. • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records. • Follow relevant Patient Group Directions, Patient Specific Directions, national protocols and local policies, as applicable. • Maintain appropriate infection prevention and control standards. • Recognise and respond appropriately to adverse reactions, including anaphylaxis. • Work within professional boundaries and escalate any clinical concerns when required. • Support the efficient running of vaccination clinics and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. • Complete all required vaccination-specific training and competency assessments. Essential requirementsThe postholder must: • Be a registered healthcare professional with current, unrestricted registration with the NMC, HCPC or GPhC. • Have previous experience of administering intramuscular vaccinations. • Be able to work safely within their professional scope of practice. • Hold, or be willing to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check. • Be available to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends. This is a zero-hours bank position, with most shifts expected to be available during October and November. Additional ad hoc work may be offered to support other vaccination programmes.
