Job description

Main duties and responsibilities 1. To effectively manage a caseload through assessment, treatment and evaluation using clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice in clinic, the childs home or school/nursery environment. 2. To provide assessments using the telephone and/or video technology. 3. To administer standardise motor assessments which require coordination, manual dexterity skills to demonstrate the task to be assessed. 4. To prioritise and interpret referral information to provide the most appropriate assessment, using standardised and non-standardised tests and clinical observations. 5. To interpret assessment findings in relation to the functional difficulties of the child looking at all areas of the childs life, considering parent, child, teacher and other professional opinions. 6. To assess and recommend equipment to enable a child to participate in schoolwork activities. 7. Order appropriate equipment from the medical equipment store. 8. To plan and organise appropriate intervention choosing from a range of therapy models with the child, family and school as applicable. The intervention may be carried out by an OT Assistant and may take the form of individual or group work. 9. To support schools in carrying out a childs OT program. 10. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention. 11. To contribute specialist advice as part of the Code of practice for the Assessment of Special Educational Needs in line with educational policies and procedures. 12. To contribute to the induction and training of students and new members of staff, both within and external to the Trust. 13. To provide training to education staff and other professionals as required. 14.
