Job description

THE ROLE Interesting and varied Toolroom machinist’s role with this respected special purpose machinery manufacturer. BPA operates a CNC machine shop producing high-precision aerospace tooling, and ground support equipment components and assemblies, to tight tolerances and strict quality standards. We supply Leonardo Helicopters and GKN Aerospace — customers whose requirements leave no room for error. You should have a good cross section of CNC Machining experience to include Milling, turning, programming (Siemens and Fanuc controls), and ideally grinding. The role will involve prototype and small batch machining of parts and creating jigs and fixtures. Any offline CAD/CAM experience will also be an advantage (PowerMill exp beneficial but can cross train). You will perform inspection of parts and general basic upkeep of the machines. Quality, consistency, and attention to detail are non-negotiable. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Set up and operate CNC milling and/or turning machines (3-axis and above) to produce components from engineering drawings. • Work to tight tolerances and aerospace quality standards (AS9100 environment). • Carry out in-process inspection using standard metrology equipment (verniers, micrometers, CMM as appropriate). • Maintain accurate job card and traveller documentation. • Identify and report tooling wear, machine faults, and non-conformances promptly. • Contribute to 5S housekeeping and FOD (Foreign Object Damage) prevention. • Liaise with Works Manager and Quality on first-off approvals and concession requests. • Support programming and process improvement activities where capability exists. WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU • Demonstrable experience setting, programming and operating CNC milling or turning centres (Fanuc, Heidenhain, or equivalent). • Proficiency in operating 3, 4, and 5 axis machines • Familiarity with CAD CAM systems • Knowledge of all or some of the systems - Siemens, Fanuc, Delcam Power Mill, or Faroarm systems ideally. • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision • Excellent problem-solving skills • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Reliable, time-served, and methodical. WORKING ENVIRONMENT You will be working in a busy machine shop producing low-volume, high-precision components. The environment is professional, the standards are high, and the team is small. If you are used to high-volume repetitive production, this will be a step up in technical complexity.
