Job Introduction Community Engagement Officer Location: Harborne, Birmingham (with community-based working) Help create a more inclusive Birmingham where everyone can live life fully. Focus Birmingham is looking for a passionate, proactive and people-focused Community Engagement Officer to help build stronger, more inclusive communities. This is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference by connecting with people, organisations and partners to improve awareness, accessibility and opportunities for people with sight loss, learning disabilities, complex disabilities and under-represented communities. A key part of the role will be supporting the delivery of the Deep Engagement Partnership (DEP), a collaborative initiative working with Birmingham City Council Public Health, community organisations and local people to improve health equity, reduce inequalities and ensure people with lived experience help shape more accessible, inclusive services and communities. Working alongside colleagues, volunteers and partners, you'll help deliver projects and events, build meaningful partnerships, promote accessible health information and encourage community participation that leads to lasting positive change. What you'll be doing Building Community Connections • Support the delivery of the Deep Engagement Partnership (DEP), community engagement activities and partnership projects that improve awareness, accessibility and inclusion. • Build positive relationships with community organisations, statutory partners, local stakeholders and community groups to increase engagement and participation. • Represent Focus Birmingham at meetings, workshops and events, delivering presentations and providing information, advice and signposting where appropriate. • Champion the voices of people with lived experience through engagement, consultation and co-production activities. Supporting Projects and Research • Carry out community and stakeholder research to identify local needs, improve accessibility and inform future engagement. • Support surveys, focus groups and co-production activities, ensuring the experiences of local people influence service development. • Maintain accurate project records, databases and reports to support monitoring, evaluation and contract reporting. • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to achieve project objectives and contractual outcomes. Promoting Engagement and Communications • Support the development of accessible public health campaigns and engagement materials alongside the Marketing team. • Help create engaging website and social media content that raises awareness of Focus Birmingham's services and community opportunities. • Promote engagement activities through community networks and digital channels, ensuring communications are inclusive, accessible and reach diverse audiences. Supporting Volunteers and Community Participation • Assist with recruiting, inducting and supporting volunteers involved in community engagement activities. • Help coordinate volunteer communications, training and recognition. • Provide day-to-day guidance and encouragement to volunteers, helping them make a meaningful contribution. • Promote positive volunteer experiences and opportunities for local people to get involved in Focus Birmingham's work.
