Job description

Overall Purpose of Role: To provide decisive and effective leadership to team(s) in line with the councils Vision & Values and Leadership Qualities that enables them to do their best work resulting in high levels of people and organisational performance. The Consultant in Public Health gives expert advice on public health standards and practice and leads on the development and implementation of significant public health programmes, in partnership with a range of agencies such as those in the statutory, non-statutory, voluntary and private sector. Page 2 of 10 Receive, interpret, provide and advise on highly complex epidemiological and statistical information about the health of populations to the NHS, Local Authority and voluntary organisations and ensure agreement with Public Health England (London) for health protection matters. 10% Ensure the use of the best available evidence base to support the assessment of health needs, health inequalities, health impact assessment and the identification of areas for action within the local population. 10% Provide expert public health advice and leadership to support and inform an evidence-based approach within ethical frameworks for commissioning and to develop high quality equitable services, across primary, secondary and social care, and across sectors including local authorities, voluntary organisations and others, in potentially contentious and hostile environments where barriers to acceptance may exist. 10% Be responsible for the development and implementation of multi-agency long-term public health programmes as required, based on identification of areas of potential health improvement, the diversity of local needs and the reduction of inequalities 5% Undertake and commission literature reviews, surveys, audit and research projects to inform an equitable service and target inequalities, taking the lead on Research and Development for and the Council and CCG when appropriate. 5% Raise awareness of the contribution of public health skills and knowledge in the local health community, including the local authority and the voluntary sectors; by contributing to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level and by supervising those training and working in public health. 5% Carry out other miscellaneous duties associated with the role. 5% Job description Job responsibilities Overall Purpose of Role: To provide decisive and effective leadership to team(s) in line with the councils Vision & Values and Leadership Qualities that enables them to do their best work resulting in high levels of people and organisational performance.
