Job description

Your new company Hays Education works in close partnership with a large number of secondary schools across London, supporting them with high-quality staff to ensure continuity of learning. Due to increased demand, we are recruiting confident and committed Cover Supervisors to work in a variety of secondary settings. Your new role As a Cover Supervisor in a secondary school, you will be responsible for supervising classes across Key Stages 3 and 4 in the absence of a teacher.This role is ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, or individuals with experience working with teenagers who are looking to gain hands-on classroom experience. Your duties will include: • Supervising full classes during teacher absences across a range of subjects • Delivering pre-prepared lesson materials and ensuring students stay on task • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school behaviour policies • Supporting students to complete work independently • Building positive relationships with students aged 11-16 (and up to 18 in some settings) • Providing feedback to teaching staff regarding student engagement and behaviour What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role within a secondary environment, you will: • Have experience working with young people aged 11-16 (school, coaching, tutoring, youth work, etc.) • Be confident leading a classroom and managing behaviour effectively • Demonstrate strong communication skills and a calm, authoritative presence • Be flexible and adaptable to different subjects and school settings • Hold (or be willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS check A degree or school-based experience is highly advantageous, particularly for those considering a future in teaching.
