Crisis Intervention Nurse

• Work as an autonomous practitioner providing specialist mental health assessments for children and adolescents presenting in crisis, including those with complex co-morbid conditions and high-risk behaviours. • Conduct thorough risk assessments (including self-harm and suicide risk), formulate crisis and contingency plans, and implement positive risk management strategies. • Deliver timely follow-up appointments and ensure safe discharge planning with documented care plans recorded on the electronic patient record. • Facilitate referrals to appropriate internal and external services and ensure continuity of care. • Coordinate care for CYP admitted to Paediatric Wards, liaising with Paediatric Liaison Nurses and medical teams. • Collaborate closely with CYPS Community Teams during office hours to respond promptly to emergency referrals. • Work jointly with Intensive Intervention Teams and wider alliance partners, including local authorities and emergency services, to ensure integrated crisis care. • Manage a caseload of medium- to high-risk cases from referral through to discharge or transfer. • Provide clinical leadership within the crisis pathway, ensuring high standards of care and safe clinical practice. • Monitor, maintain, and improve standards of care, addressing clinical issues that may negatively impact service delivery. • Act as a visible and credible role model in the clinical setting, demonstrating advanced knowledge in CYP mental health. • Support clinicians in managing complex, high-risk, and distressing situations, including cases involving neurodivergent needs or learning difficulties. • Supervise, mentor, and support junior staff and students, including undertaking recognised assessor training and participating in formal learner assessments (nurses only) • Arrange and deliver training opportunities for Emergency Department and Paediatric Ward staff to enhance competencies in managing CYP mental health needs. • Develop education programmes, learning outcomes, and competency assessments in collaboration with the Paediatric Matron. • Lead on allocating safe and appropriate enhanced nursing care (specials) for CYP when required. • Lead the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols within the crisis pathway. • Ensure outcome measures are implemented, monitored, and audited. • Participate in and contribute to clinical audit and research to demonstrate service impact, including reduced length of stay and improved patient satisfaction. • Ensure interventions delivered within the pathway are evidence-based and aligned with best practice. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation, child protection procedures, and relevant policies. • Support service development initiatives to strengthen crisis response provision across settings. • Communicate complex and sensitive information clearly and compassionately to CYP and their families/carers. • Respond sensitively to the needs of relatives and carers during crisis situations. • Work in partnership with multidisciplinary teams, including paediatric services, community teams, alliance partners, and emergency services.
