System Design Engineer Redhill, Surrey Full-time | Permanent £40,000 - £45,000 Per Annum + Excellent Benefits Are you an experienced Design Engineer looking to work on complex engineering projects that combine electrical, mechanical and systems design? We're seeking a proactive and technically capable System Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team, helping to deliver innovative solutions across a range of high-profile projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys turning concepts into detailed, production-ready designs and wants to play a key role in the full engineering lifecycle. Important Security Requirement This position requires Security Clearance (SC) eligibility. Applicants who do not currently hold SC Clearance, or who are not eligible to obtain SC Clearance, cannot be considered for this role. The Opportunity Working closely with engineering and project teams, you'll be responsible for producing high-quality electrical and mechanical design documentation, supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture and delivery. This role would suit an engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, taking ownership of their work and working independently while collaborating with wider project teams. What You'll Be Doing • Producing detailed electrical and mechanical drawings for engineering projects • Developing design concepts from first principles through to final design output • Creating high-quality 2D and 3D CAD drawings to recognised industry and ISO standards • Producing STEP files and technical documentation for customers and project teams • Refining conceptual or preliminary designs into detailed engineering solutions • Designing electrical enclosures, control panels and 19-inch rack systems • Producing supporting Visio diagrams and technical drawings where required • Working closely with stakeholders to ensure designs meet technical, quality and customer requirements What We're Looking For We're interested in speaking with candidates who have: • HNC, HND, apprenticeship qualification or equivalent in an engineering discipline • Experience producing electrical and mechanical engineering drawings in a commercial environment • Strong CAD experience, ideally including AutoCAD and electrical CAD packages such as SEE Electrical or ETAP • Knowledge of recognised drawing standards, including BS8888 • Understanding of electrical safety, compliance and engineering standards • Familiarity with EMC and Low Voltage Directive (LVD) requirements • Experience designing electrical enclosures, control panels or rack-based systems • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently Desirable Experience • Around five years' experience in electrical or systems design • Knowledge of BS7671 Wiring Regulations (18th Edition) and electrical installation compliance requirements • Experience working within complex engineering, communications, defence, aerospace, maritime or systems integration environments Why Apply? • Opportunity to work on technically challenging engineering projects • Exposure to complex electrical and mechanical systems design • High level of autonomy and ownership • Collaborative engineering environment • Career development opportunities within a growing technical team
