Job description

Environmental Protection Team Leader Location: Hybrid Working – 3 Days per Week in the Office - Welwyn Hatfield Hours: 37 Hours per Week (Full-Time) Hourly Rate: £55 per hour Annual Leave: 28 Days Annual Leave plus Bank Holidays and Privilege Day We are seeking an experienced Environmental Protection Team Leader to join the Public Realm service. This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional with strong technical expertise and leadership capability to make an immediate impact in delivering environmental protection services and ensuring statutory obligations are met. Key Requirements • A proven track record in Environmental Protection. • A degree-level qualification in a relevant environmental discipline. • Significant experience working within Environmental Protection, including extensive practical experience using noise monitoring equipment, interpreting results, and producing technical reports. • Experience in one or more specialist areas including air quality or contaminated land. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with members of the public, colleagues, stakeholders, and the business community. • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied workload, meet statutory deadlines, and reprioritise tasks in response to changing demands. • A sound understanding of the legal processes governing environmental enforcement work. Key Responsibilities • Lead and support the delivery of Environmental Protection services. • Oversee investigations relating to environmental protection matters and ensure compliance with relevant legislation. • Review and interpret environmental monitoring data and prepare detailed technical reports. • Manage competing priorities while ensuring statutory and service deadlines are achieved. • Support enforcement activities and contribute to service improvement initiatives. Special Conditions • A current full driving licence. • Access to a vehicle with appropriate business-use insurance. • Willingness and ability to undertake site visits and inspections outside standard working hours when required.
