Job description

Our client is a well-established construction business delivering high-quality projects across a range of sectors including commercial, education, heritage and refurbishment. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Estimator to join their pre-construction team and support the successful preparation, management and submission of competitive tenders for a variety of construction projects. Reporting to the Pre-Construction Director, the successful candidate will play a key role in the preparation, management and submission of competitive tenders. This is an excellent opportunity for an Estimator looking to work on varied and complex projects, contributing to bid strategy, value engineering and the continued growth of a successful construction organisation. Estimator - Position Remuneration • Salary of £50,000 - £60,000 depending on experience • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and birthday off • Profit share scheme • Salary sacrifice pension • Death in service benefit • Cycle to work scheme • Fully funded training and development opportunities including technical, managerial and safety training • Regular company events including bi-annual staff forums and awards Estimator - Position Overview • Manage the full estimating process from initial tender enquiry through to final submission and successful handover • Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and contract requirements to establish project scope and pricing requirements • Coordinate tender requirements with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure accurate and compliant submissions • Complete detailed quantity take-offs and prepare cost estimates using labour, plant, materials and subcontractor pricing • Obtain, review and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations to support competitive tender submissions • Develop project pricing strategies, cost plans and value engineering opportunities to maximise commercial performance • Work collaboratively with the bid team to prepare design and build tender submissions • Liaise with designers and technical teams to develop solutions suitable for accurate pricing • Contribute to tender planning, risk assessments and commercial reviews to identify and mitigate potential project risks • Support the implementation of digital estimating tools, including BIM and 5D cost planning processes where required • Present completed tenders for internal review and approval prior to client submission • Support post-tender negotiations and provide detailed project handovers following successful contract awards Estimator - Position Requirements • Relevant construction qualification such as HNC, HND or Degree • Proven experience working within an estimating role within the construction industry • Strong understanding of tender processes, contract documentation and construction methodologies • Ability to analyse tender documents, drawings, specifications and contract terms • Experience producing accurate cost estimates and developing project pricing strategies • Strong knowledge of materials, products, labour, plant and associated construction costs • Ability to obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations • Experience with value engineering, cost planning and developing commercial solutions • Good understanding of BIM-enabled design and digital estimating tools would be advantageous • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications • Knowledge of contract law, quality assurance processes and lean methodologies would be beneficial • Strong IT skills with the ability to utilise relevant estimating and project software • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities • Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, clients and supply chain partners Streamline Search is a technical recruitment agency based in Chichester, West Sussex operating across the United Kingdom.
