Facilities Maintenance Operative – Southampton Initial 3-Month Contract Salary Equivalent: £35,000 per annum £23.86 an hour (Umbrella) Hours: 40 per week (flexible start/finish times) Opportunity: We are currently seeking a Facilities Maintenance Operative to support the safe, compliant and efficient running of a rail depot. This is a hands-on, multi-skilled role covering planned and reactive maintenance across depot buildings, site infrastructure and general facilities. You’ll carry out a wide range of building fabric, plumbing and basic electrical tasks to ensure the depot remains fully operational. What you’ll be doing: • Planned & reactive maintenance across depot buildings and facilities • Plumbing repairs: taps, sinks, toilets, pipework • General fabric work: carpentry, door adjustments, lock changes, minor repairs, painting and decorating • Basic electrical tasks: light fittings, lamps, sockets, switches, minor fault identification. • Supporting inspections and reporting defects • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and job sheets What we’re looking for: • Experience as a Facilities Maintenance Operative, Fabric Technician, Maintenance Engineer, Multi-Skilled Operative, or Building Maintenance Technician • Strong building fabric and plumbing skills • Ability to carry out basic electrical maintenance safely • Proven experience delivering reactive and planned maintenance • Good problem-solving and fault-finding ability Desirable Experience: • Experience in rail, transport, depot, manufacturing, healthcare or commercial environments • Health & Safety awareness • Electrical qualifications (18th Edition or equivalent) • Plumbing or building maintenance qualifications A multi-skilled facilities technician with practical experience across plumbing, carpentry, general building repairs and basic electrical work. You’ll be proactive, safety-focused and able to respond quickly to reactive maintenance needs while supporting planned activities.
