Role: Family Law Assistant
Location: Derby, Derbyshire
Salary: £25,000 - £27,000
Contract: Full time/Part time, Permanent

An established and highly regarded law firm in Derby is looking to recruit a dedicated Legal Assistant / Career Paralegal to join its busy and supportive Family Law team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in delivering exceptional client service, and is looking to develop their expertise within a respected specialist practice.
The Role
Working closely with experienced Family Solicitors, you will provide comprehensive support across a varied caseload of privately funded family matters. This is a hands-on position offering genuine responsibility and the opportunity to become an integral part of the team.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Assisting fee earners with a range of family law matters, including divorce, financial remedy, private children matters and cohabitation disputes.
• Preparing legal documents, court bundles and correspondence.
• Managing client enquiries with professionalism and empathy.
• Liaising with clients, courts, barristers and other professionals.
• Maintaining accurate case files and ensuring compliance with internal procedures.
• Supporting fee earners throughout the lifecycle of cases.
• General administrative and case management duties.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
• Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal within Family Law.
• A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in family law.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A compassionate and professional approach when dealing with clients.
• High attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
• Experience using case management systems would be advantageous.
