Job description

An exceptional opportunity has arisen to join one of Cumbria's most highly respected privately owned businesses at a pivotal stage in its evolution. This is an on site role. Employing over 300 people and generating £45 million turnover, the business has built an outstanding reputation over many years. Following continued success, it is now entering an exciting period of transformation, investment and planned expansion into a complementary new market, creating the need for an outstanding Finance Director to join the executive leadership team. This is far more than a traditional finance role. Working side-by-side with an ambitious and highly driven Managing Director, you will become a trusted confidant and strategic partner, helping shape the future direction of the business while supporting the wider Senior Management Team. This is a genuine opportunity to leave a lasting legacy—building the finance function, strengthening commercial decision making, driving operational improvement and helping deliver the next phase of sustainable growth. The OpportunityAs Finance Director, you will provide strategic and commercial leadership across the organisation whilst maintaining responsibility for financial governance, reporting and control. Alongside leading the finance function, you will influence business performance through meaningful commercial insight, improved management information, operational support and the successful delivery of transformation initiatives. You will play a central role in: • Partnering closely with the Managing Director and Board on strategic decision making. • Leading budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial planning. • Driving commercial performance, profitability and operational efficiency. • Developing robust reporting, KPI dashboards and business intelligence. • Supporting investment decisions, business improvement projects and future growth initiatives. • Leading finance systems, digital development and continuous improvement. • Strengthening governance, risk management and financial controls. • Developing and inspiring a high-performing finance team. About YouWe're seeking an accomplished Finance Director or senior finance leader who combines strong technical capability with outstanding commercial judgement. You'll be someone who enjoys getting into the detail, operating within a fast-paced, complex environment and is motivated by building, improving and influencing rather than simply maintaining. You will ideally offer: • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification with significant post-qualified experience. • Senior finance leadership experience within transport, logistics, manufacturing, distribution or another operationally intensive B2B environment. • Strong commercial acumen with the credibility to influence senior stakeholders. • A proven track record of leading operational and finance transformation. • Experience improving reporting, controls, systems and business performance. • A collaborative, hands-on leadership style with the confidence to challenge constructively and drive positive change. The Package • Circa £90,000 basic salary, Car allowance, Annual bonus of up to 15%. • Company Pension Scheme. • Private healthcare cash plan. • The opportunity to become a key member of an ambitious executive leadership team with genuine influence over the future direction of a successful and growing business. Due to the confidential nature of this appointment, further information will be shared with suitably qualified applicants following an initial confidential discussion.
