Job description

Harper May is working with a multi-channel retail group that operates flagship stores and a growing online presence across the UK. The business is privately owned, profitable, and currently scaling its supply chain and technology infrastructure. Recent investment in warehouse automation and customer data capability has accelerated growth, and the finance function is being strengthened to support this momentum. They are now seeking a Finance Manager to build financial rigour and deliver commercial insight to the leadership team. The Role You will report to the Finance Director and own core financial operations for the business. This is a hands-on role that combines accurate reporting with the ability to challenge and shape trading performance across stores and digital channels. You will work closely with supply chain, retail operations, and the commercial team in a growing, collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities • Lead the monthly close process, reconciliations, and production of management accounts • Build and manage annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and working capital planning • Analyse gross margin, overhead absorption, and store-level profitability trends • Work with operations and merchandising teams to understand cost drivers and trading variances • Maintain general ledger controls and ensure balance sheet accuracy • Support year-end audit, tax compliance, and statutory obligations • Drive improvements to finance processes, systems, and internal reporting What we are looking for • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification (or equivalent relevant experience) • Experience in retail, wholesale, or consumer goods finance • Solid technical accounting and ability to produce clear management reporting • Commercial curiosity - you read numbers for insight, not just accuracy • Confidence working with operational and commercial teams outside finance • Proficiency in Excel and experience with standard finance systems
