Finance Officer Location: Medway (Hybrid Working Available) Contract: 4 Months Initially Rate: Competitive Hourly Rate (DOE) Sector: Local Government / Education & SEND Start Date: ASAP The Opportunity We are currently recruiting for an experienced Finance Officer to join a busy Education & SEND team within a well-established local authority based in Medway. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong administrative and financial processing experience to support a high-performing service during a period of increased demand. This position offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining office-based and remote working. Key Responsibilities • Support the Business and Finance function across Education & SEND services. • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and transaction data. • Process and reconcile invoices, ensuring timely settlement. • Assist with budget monitoring and preparation of financial reports. • Update and monitor performance, activity and savings data. • Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies and anomalies. • Provide administrative support to the wider division as required. • Liaise with internal departments, schools and external stakeholders. • Ensure compliance with financial procedures, GDPR and organisational policies. Candidate Requirements Essential • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English. • Previous experience providing finance and administrative support within a busy environment. • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel. • Excellent organisational skills with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail. • Ability to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work independently and use initiative when resolving issues. Desirable • Experience working within Local Government, Education or Public Sector environments. • Knowledge of financial systems and basic accounting principles. • NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent qualification. • Advanced Excel skills including formulas and reporting. • Experience supporting budget monitoring and financial reporting processes.
