Job description

Financial Controller | Real Estate | Central London (Hybrid) | £80,000| Permanent Role Robert Half are working with a large, international real estate and professional services organisation to recruit a permanent Financial Controller into a high-profile technical accounting leadership role supporting their UK & Ireland finance function. Reporting into the Country Controller, this position offers an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a significant area of the balance sheet within a complex, multi-entity business. You'll combine strong technical accounting expertise with commercial judgement, working closely with finance teams across the UK and international shared service centres to ensure robust financial reporting, strong governance, and continuous process improvement. This is a highly visible role offering significant exposure to senior finance leadership and the opportunity to influence how finance operates across the wider business. Due to Business Needs, there is a strong preference for candidates who are available at short notice, although applications from those with up to a three-month notice period will also be considered. About the Position Reporting into the Country Controller, you will be responsible for: • Taking full ownership of a defined area of the balance sheet, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, accounting treatment, and supporting judgements. * Leading the SOX and internal controls framework for your area, strengthening governance and driving continuous improvements across finance processes. * Reviewing and challenging month-end close activities delivered by international finance teams, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance. * Acting as the technical accounting lead for your area, providing guidance on complex accounting matters and supporting key business decisions. * Owning balance sheet reconciliations, movement analysis, and reporting commentary for senior finance leadership. * Managing external audit requirements for your area, including statutory reporting, disclosures, and responses to audit queries. * Maintaining and resolving accounting exceptions, identifying root causes and implementing long-term process improvements. * Coaching and developing junior finance colleagues while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence. What We're Looking For • Fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA). * Big 4 trained, with a strong technical accounting foundation. * Strong technical accounting experience gained within a complex, listed, multi-entity organisation. * Experience operating within a SOX or highly controlled financial environment. * Strong understanding of both UK GAAP and US GAAP, with Irish GAAP knowledge beneficial but not essential. * Previous ownership of significant balance sheet areas and complex accounting judgements. * Proven ability to work effectively with shared service or offshore finance teams. * Strong stakeholder management skills with confidence to challenge, influence, and support senior colleagues. * Previous experience developing junior team members and promoting continuous improvement. * An interest in automation, technology, and leveraging AI to enhance finance processes would be highly advantageous. Here's What's Waiting for You • £80,000 base salary plus bonus. * Flexible hybrid working model based in Central London. * A high-profile technical accounting role within a large international real estate organisation. * Significant exposure to senior finance leadership and business-critical decision making. * Opportunities to lead finance transformation initiatives, strengthen controls, and improve reporting processes. * Excellent long-term career progression within a well-established global finance function. Why This Role Could Be Your Next Move This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong accountant looking to step into a broad leadership role with genuine ownership and influence. You'll combine technical expertise with stakeholder management, process improvement, and team leadership, helping shape the future of finance within a complex international business. If you're looking for a position that offers challenge, visibility, and long-term progression, this role provides an outstanding next step.
