The Opportunity
A successful and ambitious construction business seeking a Fractional Finance Director.
Seeking an experienced Fractional Finance Director who can provide strategic financial leadership while partnering closely with the Managing Director and shareholders. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of the business, improving commercial performance and building the financial infrastructure required to support sustainable growth.
The successful candidate will be a commercially minded finance leader with a proven track record within the construction sector and experience supporting owner-managed businesses through periods of expansion.
Key Responsibilities
You will work closely with the leadership team to:
• Develop and execute a robust three-year growth strategy.
• Improve profitability, margins and EBITDA performance.
• Strengthen forecasting, budgeting and business planning processes.
• Increase visibility of project and contract profitability.
• Improve working capital management and cash generation.
• Enhance management information, KPI reporting and financial governance.
• Support strategic decision-making at board level.
• Drive shareholder value creation.
• Mentor and develop the existing finance team.
• Act as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director and shareholders.
Construction Sector Experience is ideal
You will have practical experience of:
• Contract accounting
• Work-in-progress (WIP) management
• Long-term contract revenue recognition
• Applications for payment
• Retentions management
• Subcontractor management
• Contractual risk assessment
• Project cost control
• Forecast final account reporting
• Cash flow management within project-based environments
Candidate Profile
Essential
• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
• Previous Finance Director or CFO experience.
• Strong construction sector background.
• Experience supporting businesses with revenues between £10m and £50m.
• Strong commercial finance and business partnering capability.
• Demonstrable success in improving profitability and cash generation.
• Experience working within owner-managed businesses.
• Excellent board-level communication and stakeholder management skills.
Highly Desirable
• Experience scaling a construction business from £10m–£20m turnover to £25m–£35m+.
• Implementation of project profitability reporting and KPI frameworks.
• Banking, funding and lender relationship management experience.
• M&A and post-acquisition integration experience.
• Private equity or investor-backed growth exposure.
• ERP implementation and finance transformation experience.
