Freelance Content Curator & Editor – US Trending & Entertainment

About the role
We are launching an exciting new US-focused vertical expanding on our established entertainment news brand. We are looking for sharp, fast-paced, and highly experienced Freelance Editors to lead our real-time coverage for a US audience.
This is a high-volume, dynamic editorial role focused on story spotting, content optimisation, AI-assisted workflow management, and Facebook publishing strategy. You will be responsible for curating high-performing trending stories, guiding automated and AI-generated drafts through production, and ensuring top-tier editorial, legal, and SEO standards at rapid turnaround speeds.

Key responsibilities
• High-speed content curation: Continuously monitor US media, trending topics, true crime, politics, and showbiz to spot breaking and viral stories before the competitior pile-on.
• Workflow & AI content management: Oversee and optimise AI-assisted story generation, taking raw output and turning it into polished, engaging, publication-ready news pieces.
• Volume & output: Maintain a fast, efficient pace, delivering a minimum target of 10 fully packaged stories per shift.
• Editorial & copy oversight: Perform rigorous, rapid-fire proofreading to catch everything from subtle typos and stylistic mismatches to missed SEO opportunities and factual inaccuracies.
• Package for Social (Facebook): Craft punchy, high-CTR headlines, social copy, and visual packaging tailored specifically to drive engagement on Facebook.
• Compliance & media law: Apply a robust understanding of copyright, defamation, and media law – specifically navigating the differences between US and UK publication standards.
Requirements & qualifications
• Proven experience: Significant background editing or leading coverage for major entertainment, showbiz, or trending news digital outlets (ideally with experience across both US and UK titles).
• Sharp news sense: An instinct for what resonates with a US audience and the ability to spot stories on US sites that carry specific regional or legal considerations.
• Flawless editing skills: Ability to edit at high speed while maintaining absolute accuracy across grammar, tone, SEO, and fact-checking.
• AI & tech literacy: Comfortable leveraging AI content tools and newsroom automation to maximise speed and efficiency.
• Media law expertise: Solid grounding in digital media law, libel, and copyright considerations across transatlantic jurisdictions.
• Audience growth focus: Deep knowledge of Facebook algorithm trends, headline testing, and reader engagement tactics.
