General Manager - Transport

Location: Dartford, Kent Salary: £65K + additional benefits SummaryWe are looking for an experienced and motivated General Manager - Transport to lead and develop our transport operation. This is a senior leadership position responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of transport services while driving operational excellence and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in transport management, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to inspire and lead high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilties • Lead the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring service excellence and operational efficiency. • Manage and develop transport managers, planners, supervisors, drivers, and support teams. • Ensure full compliance with all transport legislation, health and safety requirements, and operator licence obligations. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, service levels, and cost efficiency. • Manage transport budgets, KPIs, and performance reporting. • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders. • Identify opportunities for operational growth and process improvement. • Promote a positive culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork, and customer service. • Lead investigations, incident management, and corrective action plans where required. • Support business strategy and contribute to wider organisational objectives. Key Skills / Experience: • Significant senior management experience within a transport or logistics environment. • Strong knowledge of transport legislation and compliance requirements. • CPC qualification (National or International) is highly desirable. • Proven experience managing large teams and multi-site operations. • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. • Strong financial and commercial acumen. • Ability to analyse operational data and implement improvements. • Experience managing KPIs, budgets, and performance. • Full UK driving licence.
