Clinical Responsibilities
In accordance with the agreed practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake a range of clinical duties including:
• Conducting face-to-face consultations
• Managing telephone and digital consultations
• Participating in the practices total triage system delivered through Accurx, reviewing and clinically assessing patient requests and determining the most appropriate course of action
• Undertaking duty doctor / on-call sessions, providing same-day clinical assessment and decision-making for urgent patient needs. On-call responsibilities are shared across the GP team and allocated on a sessional pro-rata basis
• Carrying out home visits where clinically appropriate
• Checking, signing and reauthorising repeat prescriptions
• Managing patient queries, clinical correspondence and administrative tasks in a timely manner
The post-holder will also:
• Make professional and autonomous clinical decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred by other healthcare professionals
• Assess the healthcare needs of patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions
• Screen patients for risk factors and early signs of disease
• Develop care plans in partnership with patients and in line with practice disease management protocols
• Provide health promotion, counselling and preventative care
• Admit or discharge patients from the practice caseload and refer to other healthcare providers where appropriate
• Maintain accurate, clear and contemporaneous clinical records in accordance with professional and medico-legal standards
• Contribute to clinical audit and data collection activities
• Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
• Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary, or generically where clinically appropriate
• Support the teaching and supervision of GP registrars and undergraduate medical students, contributing to the practices role as a training environment
In general, the post-holder will undertake all duties and responsibilities normally associated with a General Practitioner working in primary care.
