2026 Graduate - Trainee Chartered Accountant The Role Barber McLelland is working in partnership with a regional independent firm of accountants. The business is looking to recruit a Graduate for the position of Trainee Chartered Accountant at its Barnsley Office. The business is looking to invest in an individual who graduated in 2026 and is looking to embark on a career as a chartered accountant. Duties and Responsibilities The role of Graduate Trainee Chartered Accountant will work within a highly experienced and supportive environment and will develop exposure to the following: • The preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies • Assist with client external audits • Preparation of monthly management accounts • Preparation of personal and corporate tax computations • Preparation of VAT • Develop experience in using various accountancy software packages including Sage Line 50 and Xero accounting. The firm will provide the successful Trainee Chartered Accountant with an excellent platform for career development. They have an excellent, well-structured training program that provides practical experience across all areas of accounting and involves working with a wide variety of clients. Skills and Qualities The successful applicant must have graduated in 2026 and ideally with an appropriate degree such as Accountancy & Finance, Mathematics or Business Finance, although this is not essential. Strong academics are key, with a minimum expected grade of 2:1 with good A-level and GCSE results. Due to the nature of the role, individuals must have the confidence to deal with clients directly in one-on-one situations.
