Hand Fellow - Specialist Clinical Fellow

There are 4 plastic surgery consultants with a subspecialty interest in hand and wrist surgery and 3 orthopaedic hand surgeons. Operating lists and clinics take place at all three main hospital sites but the majority of the work is based at Wexham Park and Heatherwood. The post holder will be expected to attend the monthly hand and wrist MDT. Depending on training and service requirements there will be opportunities to undertake work in other subspecialties including microsurgery, breast reconstruction, skin cancer and aesthetic surgery. The successful candidate will be expected to take an active role in audit and academic development as well as the teaching and supervision of junior trainees. The unit has a strong history of contribution to national trials and audits with plenty of opportunity for involvement. Full encouragement and support is given to those that wish to sit the British or European Hand Diplomas. The ability to work flexibly, cohesively and in collaboration with the existing teams is a necessary requirement for the post. The post holder will become proficient in Wide Awake Local Anaesthetic No Tourniquet (WALANT) hand surgery including the management of acute scaphoid fractures and trapeziectomies.
