Job description

The Company NW Tech are delighted to be working with a higher education organisation in their search for a Head of External Reporting and Data Quality. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity and compliance of student data, underpinning statutory reporting, funding, and institutional decision-making The Role You will take overall responsibility for the preparation, validation and submission of all student-related external returns, including the HESA return and other statutory data collections. Alongside this, you will lead the data quality function, driving improvements in governance, processes and systems to ensure data is trusted, consistent and fit-for-purpose across the institution. Other key responsibilities include: • Lead the end-to-end delivery of external data returns (c.30 annually) • Develop and implement robust frameworks and governance models • Lead and develop a team of ~15–16 staff • Take ownership of the annual reporting cycle, including peak submission periods • Act as a trusted advisor, influencing best practice in data management The Requirements This is a critical role for the organisation and a great chance for the right individual to shape how institutional data is managed, interpreted and trusted. Key requirements include: • Strong experience within UK Higher Education • Previous background within a data, management information, or data quality leadership role • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate complexity into clear outcomes • Strong understanding of student data lifecycle and structures • Familiarity with student record systems such as Banner (Illucian), SITS or TechnologyOne is highly desirable
