Job description

An ambitious and growing law firm is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Head of Finance to lead its finance function. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the executive leadership team, this is a visible role that combines strategic finance leadership, commercial partnering and operational oversight. The successful person will play a key role in supporting the business's growth agenda while ensuring the finance function continues to deliver exceptional service, insight and governance. This opportunity offers genuine influence, significant autonomy and a clear pathway for future progression within the organisation. The Opportunity As Head of Finance, you will take ownership of the finance function, leading financial strategy, reporting, planning and operational finance across the business. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing robust financial insight to support commercial decision-making. The role would suit an established finance leader who combines strong technical capability with commercial acumen and the ability to build relationships across a partnership or stakeholder-led environment. Key Responsibilities • Lead all aspects of the finance function, including financial management, reporting, planning and operational finance. • Drive budgeting, forecasting, reforecasting and financial modelling activities, providing analysis and recommendations to support business strategy. • Partner closely with senior leaders to improve business performance, profitability and decision-making. • Support pricing, utilisation, margin improvement and broader commercial initiatives. • Deliver insightful management information, KPI reporting and working capital analysis. • Oversee finance operations including billing, credit control, cash flow management and financial controls. • Lead finance systems enhancements, process improvements and transformation initiatives to improve efficiency and reporting capability. • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, statutory reporting obligations and audit processes. • Develop and lead a high-performing finance team, promoting accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement. About You • ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification. • Significant senior finance leadership experience within a law firm • Strong financial management, reporting and advanced financial modelling expertise. • Proven experience leading and developing high-performing teams. • A commercial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities to improve profitability and business performance. • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and operating within a complex, partnership-style business environment. • A proactive, hands-on approach with experience driving change, process improvement and systems development. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business insight. Working Pattern This is a collaborative leadership role requiring regular engagement with stakeholders and the wider finance team. The successful person should expect to be in the London office approximately 2-3 days per week.
