Based: Mereside Medical Practices (Cathedral Medical Centre, Haddenham Surgery, Staploe Medical Centre and Wilburton Office as necessary) Basis: Permanent, Full-time and Part-time can be considered, minimum 20 hours (Full-time = 37 hrs per week) Salary:£24,675 - £26,345 FTE per annum pro rata for Part-time Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in the UK About Us Mereside Medical is a flourishing group of three East Cambridgeshire practices in Ely, Haddenham and Soham, together serving c.45,000 patients. As a group, weve grown rapidly and now employ more than 170 people across the three practices. In addition to our core general practice work we run a large clinical research trials unit and we work closely with the ICB to develop innovative ways to improve local service provision. We are the lead practice for one of the two local PCNs and are represented in both. We are proud to be the host organisation for the NIHR Greater Cambridge & Suffolk Commercial Research Delivery Centre (Primary Care), one of only 14 in England. This prestigious designation recognises our commitment to accelerating commercial clinical research delivery for health and economic benefit across our region. The Role The Level 1 Healthcare Assistant (HCA) is part of our team of seven HCAs across the organisation who provide support to our current clinical team. Your Responsibilities Working under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and with other team members to demonstrate developing competence and clinical skills in the duties listed below, ensuring all information is clearly and objectively recorded according to practice policy: • Phlebotomy • Perform and record an ECG • Blood Pressure checks / Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring • Near patient testing for INR monitoring • Capillary samples of blood glucose and haemoglobin • Perform and record an audiometry test • Assist with setting up of equipment and chaperoning for Women's Health Procedures • Application of basic dressings as directed by Practice Nurse • Maintain stock levels / emptying clinical waste in consulting rooms • Recording of specimens prior to dispatch by courier • Liaison with pathology departments within secondary care as required • Chaperoning for other clinicians as required • General administrative support and computer data entry • Any other duties as deemed appropriate to meet the needs of the Practice in the future. Demonstrate effective communication skills to optimize patient satisfaction while managing their expectations and supporting them to make decisions, plan care, or make positive change, including: • When dealing with sensitive or confidential matters that may also have legal or ethical considerations, for example, safeguarding, substance abuse, sexual orientation and gender identity, racial and ethnic diversity, mental illness, disabilities, etc • To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies, and apply principles of self-care, including referring or sign-posting to other services that may support their wider well-being, e.g. District Nurses, Social Prescribers, Health & Well-being coaches, etc • Work collaboratively with your colleagues within Mereside practices and across the local health economy to manage risks and issues, and integrate effectively with health and social care providers, ensuring consistency of care across settings and practices. • Be confident in, and/or willing to learn, relevant technologies to facilitate remote consultations and effective cross-site working (e.g. MS Teams, AskMyGP, SystmOne, AccuRx). • Facilitation and Learning Able to recognize personal development needs and also facilitate learning for patient and carers. This requires you to: • Proactively share learning, information, and good practice insights across the practice and wider organisation to facilitate individual and team learning • Advocate for, and positively contribute to, a cohesive culture of organizational learning and collaboration both within and between teams, to ensure the best patient experience throughout their entire journey. Teamwork You are part of the Mereside practice nursing team with delegated responsibility for patient care, being accountable to the Nurse Manager. This requires: • Contribute positively to a sense of cohesion, and foster a culture of wider collaboration, across the organisation, engaging effectively with collaboration tools such as MS Teams to improve communication and information sharing across sites and teams, including remote workers • Prioritise own workload and manage your time effectively to ensure that cases are handled by the most clinically appropriate member of the team, and completed in a timely manner • Be proactive within your team to identify and service suggest improvements to the Nursing Manager based on feedback, evaluation, and need. You should have or be: Essential Requirements: • Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data handling • Good communication skills, both written and verbal • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook • Ability to learn new systems and technology quickly • Reliable and able to work independently once familiar with tasks • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality in healthcare environments. Personal Qualities: • Flexible and adaptable approach to varied daily tasks • Collaborative team player who enjoys supporting others • Proactive attitude with ability to spot opportunities for improvement • Professional and friendly manner when dealing with staff and external contacts • Commitment to supporting excellent patient care.
