Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced HGV Technician to join a busy local authority workshop in Derby on a temp-to-perm basis. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a skilled team responsible for maintaining a diverse fleet of HGVs, commercial vehicles and specialist plant equipment, ensuring they remain safe, compliant and roadworthy. • Location: Stores Road, Derby • Salary: £37,280 per annum • Hours: 37 hours per week (alternating early and late shifts) • Contract: Temp to Perm • Start: ASAP The Role:As an HGV Technician, you will carry out servicing, inspections, maintenance and repairs on a range of heavy goods vehicles and plant equipment. You'll diagnose faults, complete repairs to the highest standards and help keep the fleet operating efficiently. Key Responsibilities: • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs, commercial vehicles and plant equipment. • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults using specialist diagnostic equipment. • Ensure all work complies with DVSA/VOSA roadworthiness standards and Operator Licence requirements. • Respond to vehicle and plant breakdowns, carrying out emergency roadside repairs when required. • Complete service sheets, inspection reports and maintenance records accurately. • Assist with training apprentices and new members of staff. • Follow all Health & Safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe working environment. • Participate in an out-of-hours standby rota and occasional overtime as required. About You: • Proven experience as an HGV Technician, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Plant Technician. • Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. • Experience carrying out inspections, servicing and repairs to commercial vehicles. • Knowledge of DVSA/VOSA roadworthiness standards and vehicle compliance. • A willingness to work alternating early and late shifts. • A commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.
