Job description

Job Title: HR Administrator (Fixed Term Contract) Location: Shepton Mallet Salary: Up to £29,000 per annum Contract: Fixed Term – 12–18 months Working Pattern: Full-time, with one day per week working from home About the Role We are recruiting an HR Administrator to join the HR function on a fixed-term basis during a period of transition. The role will initially be offered for 12–18 months, reflecting current uncertainty while we implement a new HRIS system and integrate Payroll into HR. This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident, highly detail-focused and able to simply get on with it in an environment where not everything is fully defined yet. Key Responsibilities • Provide end-to-end HR administrative support across the employee lifecycle, including: • Starters, leavers and contractual changes • Preparation of contracts, letters and HR documentation • Accurate maintenance of employee records • Work within a largely manual HR environment while new systems and processes are introduced • Create, document and embed HR processes where none currently exist • Support the integration of Payroll into the HR function and help reduce duplication of activity • Act as a first point of contact for HR-related queries, delivering a strong customer service experience • Ensure high levels of accuracy and compliance in all HR data and outputs • Support the Head of HR with ad hoc activity in a fast-moving, change-led environment Key Skills & Experience Essential • Previous experience in an HR Administrator or HR support role • Confidence, exceptional attention to detail and the ability to just get on with the job • Comfortable working with ambiguity and changing priorities • Ability to work independently and take ownership, even where processes are still evolving • Strong organisational and time-management skills • Confident documenting processes and creating structure from scratch • A clear customer service mentality and confident communication style Personal Attributes • Pragmatic, resilient and solutions-focused • Comfortable making decisions and accepting that mistakes may occur in an evolving environment • Confident working with a Head of HR who may be fixing many things at once and doesn’t always live in the detail • Happy operating with minimal hand-holding and plenty of autonomy Why Join Us? • A genuine opportunity to shape and improve how HR administration operates • Involvement in HRIS implementation and organisational change • Exposure to the integration of Payroll into HR • Hybrid working with one day from home • A supportive, realistic environment that values progress over perfection
