Job description

HSE Advisor We're looking for an experienced and proactive Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) Advisor to help drive a positive safety culture across our manufacturing operations. Working as part of our QSHE team, you'll partner with managers and employees across the business to ensure legal compliance, promote best practice and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. This is a hands-on role where you'll spend time engaging with people, coaching teams and influencing behaviours to create a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace. HSE Advisor's Key Working Relationships • HS&E Manager to support the delivery of the company's Health, Safety & Environmental strategy. • Production Managers and Supervisors to drive compliance and continuous improvement. • Engineering and Maintenance teams to ensure machinery, equipment and facilities remain safe and compliant. • Human Resources to support occupational health, wellbeing, inductions and incident management. • Procurement and external contractors to ensure supplier compliance and safe working practices. • Regulatory bodies including the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), Environment Agency and Local Authorities during inspections and audits. HSE Advisors Key Responsibilities Health & Safety • Promote a proactive and positive Health, Safety & Environmental culture across the business. • Support the development and continuous improvement of the Health & Safety Management System in line with ISO 45001 and UK legislation. • Carry out workplace inspections, audits and compliance reviews, ensuring actions are completed effectively. • Lead and support accident, incident and near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and driving preventative actions. • Maintain accurate HS&E records, including RIDDOR reporting where applicable. • Develop, review and maintain risk assessments, COSHH assessments, PUWER assessments and safe systems of work. • Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is suitable, available and effectively managed. • Support behavioural safety initiatives and encourage employee engagement in safety improvements. Training & Engagement • Deliver engaging Health, Safety and Environmental inductions for new employees. • Develop and deliver toolbox talks, awareness campaigns and safety training. • Coach managers and supervisors on their health and safety responsibilities. • Support QSHE meetings, communicate actions and encourage employee involvement in continuous improvement initiatives. Environmental & Compliance • Support the Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001. • Monitor environmental compliance, including waste management, Duty of Care and environmental permits. • Coordinate statutory inspections and testing, including: Fire safety systems, Legionella control, LEV testing, Racking inspections, Emergency lighting • Occupational health surveillance • Maintain legal registers and ensure compliance with current legislation. • Support environmental improvement and sustainability initiatives. Operational Support • Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering and Maintenance teams to identify risks and implement practical solutions. • Support machinery safety reviews and engineering projects. • Assist with internal and external audits and regulatory inspections. • Monitor HS&E KPIs and produce reports that support business performance. • Contribute to wider QSHE improvement projects and undertake other duties appropriate to the role. HSE Advisor's Qualifications & Experience • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Health & Safety qualification. • IOSH Membership (or working towards Chartered status). • Minimum of five years' experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role within a manufacturing environment. • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and ISO 45001. • Working knowledge of environmental legislation and ISO 14001. • Experience conducting audits, investigations, risk assessments and compliance reviews. HSE Advisor's Skills & Attributes • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, Confident influencing and engaging people at all levels with Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a varied workload. • Excellent report writing and presentation skills. • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint ERP Systems (Desireable) • Full UK Driving Licence. • Experience within Manufacturing or Engineering is a must • Knowledge of CDM Regulations, Permit to Work systems and Fire Safety legislation. • Experience delivering behavioural safety programmes and employee engagement initiatives.
