Job description

In-House Tax ManagerManchester – hybrid £65,000 | Permanent | Full-time Are you a CTA or ACA qualified corporate tax professional considering your first move from practice into industry? This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of tax for a large, established and purpose led organisation. Working within the group finance function, you will become a key in-house tax specialist, advising senior stakeholders and overseeing a broad range of tax compliance, reporting and planning matters. The role is particularly well suited to a Corporate Tax Manager or Assistant Manager from practice who wants to move closer to commercial decision making. Rather than managing a portfolio of external clients, you will develop an in-depth understanding of one complex group and see the impact of your advice across the organisation. You will broaden your experience beyond corporation tax, gaining exposure to other taxes, general finance and other business projects. This is a visible role offering autonomy, variety and the opportunity to improve how tax is managed across the group. Duties and responsibilities As In-House Tax Manager, you will lead on day-to-day tax matters while working closely with finance colleagues, operational teams, external advisers, auditors and tax authorities. Key responsibilities will include: • Managing the accurate and timely preparation and submission of tax returns and computations, including Corporation Tax, VAT, and employment taxes. • Advising stakeholders on the tax implications of business decisions, projects, transactions and new initiatives. • Acting as a key contact for external tax advisers and HMRC, coordinating information requests and ensuring matters progress efficiently. • Monitoring changes in UK tax and accounting legislation, assessing their impact and communicating required actions. • Identifying and implementing appropriate tax-planning opportunities while maintaining strong governance and compliance. • Providing clear, commercially focused advice on ad-hoc tax and technical accounting queries. • Supporting wider regulatory returns within required timescales.. • Strengthening financial controls and improving tax, reporting and compliance processes. • Developing policies and procedures following changes in accounting standards, tax rules and regulation. • Improving the use of finance systems and data to enhance reporting and efficiency. • Building strong internal relationships and becoming a trusted adviser on tax matters. Experience and qualifications This opportunity is aimed at a technically strong tax professional who is ready to apply their expertise in an in-house environment. You will ideally have: • ACA or CTA qualification preferred. ACCA, CIMA or ATT qualified candidates with strong relevant tax experience will also be considered. • Current or recent experience at Corporate Tax Manager, Assistant Manager or equivalent level within an accountancy practice, or relevant in-house experience. • Strong knowledge of UK corporation tax legislation, compliance and reporting requirements. • Experience advising clients or stakeholders on complex tax matters in a clear and practical way. • Experience working with external advisers, auditors and tax authorities. • Good technical knowledge of statutory financial statements and the interaction between tax and financial reporting. • The ability to interpret legislative developments and turn technical information into practical recommendations. • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and confidence taking ownership of issues. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Benefits • Salary up to £65,000. • Hybrid working, combining office and home working. • Generous annual leave plus bank holidays, with the opportunity to purchase additional leave. • Market leading pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 9%. • Healthcare cash plan and wellbeing support. • Life assurance worth three times salary and a confidential employee assistance programme. • Retail, leisure and lifestyle discounts. • Payment of professional subscription. • Continued professional development and training. • Cycle-to-work and car-leasing schemes. • The opportunity to build a long-term in-house tax career within a large and complex organisation. Company culture You will join an organisation with a strong social purpose and a clear commitment to the communities it serves. The finance function works closely with colleagues across the business, and you will be encouraged to bring ideas, challenge existing processes and help shape a more proactive approach to tax. The environment is collaborative, professional and service-focused. This role offers the technical challenge and variety you enjoy in practice, combined with greater ownership, commercial exposure and visibility within one organisation. To apply, please submit your CV or contact Ben Copsey at BC Financial Search for a confidential discussion. All applications will be handled in strict confidence.
