Location: Chesterfield
Contract: Approximately 4 months
Working arrangement: Predominantly on-site
Start: As soon as possible
We are recruiting an experienced Interim Year-End Accountant to support a rapidly growing, privately owned group through its upcoming year-end and audit process.
This is a hands-on assignment requiring someone who can quickly get into the detail, review the quality of the balance sheet, prepare robust audit documentation and investigate any unexplained or unsupported balances.
The Role:
Working closely with the CFO and wider finance team, you will:
• Support the preparation of the July 2026 year-end accounts.
• Prepare the business for external audit.
• Review and strengthen balance sheet reconciliations.
• Ensure balances are accurate, supported and commercially sensible.
• Prepare audit packs, schedules and supporting documentation.
• Pull together asset samples, lease schedules and other audit evidence.
• Investigate historic balances and identify any gaps in financial information.
• Support FRS 102 analysis, including the treatment of operating leases.
• Liaise with external auditors and respond to audit queries.
• Help improve financial controls and year-end processes.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have:
• Strong experience of year-end and external audit processes.
• Previous experience preparing audit files and supporting schedules.
• Excellent balance sheet reconciliation skills.
• Experience working at Finance Manager, Financial Controller or senior accountant level.
• A proactive and inquisitive approach.
• The confidence to question figures and investigate discrepancies.
• The ability to work independently and hit the ground running.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge.
A professional qualification would be advantageous, although qualified-by-experience candidates with strong technical knowledge will also be considered.
Experience with FRS 102, Sage 200, construction accounting, CIS or domestic reverse-charge VAT would be beneficial but is not essential.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact within a growing business, with the potential for the assignment to develop into a longer-term or permanent Financial Controller opportunity.
