Job description

IT Support Engineer (1st & 2nd Line) West London (On-site, 5 days per week) £40,000 – £45,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits About the Role At my client, technology underpins everything they do. From trading systems and development platforms to the day-to-day tools used by their teams, reliable IT services are essential to keeping the business running smoothly. They are looking for an IT Support Engineer to provide high-quality first- and second-line support across the business, ensuring users can work efficiently and without disruption in a fast-paced environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career (1–3 years’ experience) who is passionate about technology and eager to grow into infrastructure, systems administration, or platform engineering over time. The Role This is a hands-on, office-based position where you’ll support a mixed environment of Windows (50%) and Linux (Ubuntu) (50%) systems, while maintaining end-user devices, office infrastructure, and internal services. My client is especially interested in individuals who are naturally curious about technology — whether that’s building home labs, experimenting with Raspberry Pi, or setting up Linux environments outside of work. You’ll be joining a collaborative team that values automation, continuous improvement, and ownership, with genuine opportunities to develop beyond traditional IT support. Key Responsibilities • Provide 1st and 2nd line support for hardware, software, OS, and connectivity issues • Maintain and support Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) workstations • Manage user onboarding/offboarding, access control, and device provisioning • Support office IT infrastructure including networking, printers, and AV equipment • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across desktop and internal systems • Assist with IT projects focused on improving reliability, security, and automation • Contribute to documentation, monitoring, and asset management Requirements Must-Haves • 1–3 years’ experience in IT support (1st/2nd line) • Strong troubleshooting across hardware, OS, and business applications • Experience supporting Windows and/or Linux environments • Interest or exposure to Linux (Ubuntu ideally) • Hands-on hardware experience (upgrades, builds, repairs) • Strong communication and organisational skills • Proactive mindset with a genuine passion for technology • Ability to work on-site 5 days per week Nice-to-Have • Exposure to Linux administration tools (e.g. FreeIPA) • Basic networking knowledge (switches, Wi-Fi, VPNs) • Scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) • Experience with endpoint management or automation tools • Interest in infrastructure, cloud, or systems engineering Why Join? • Work closely with a highly technical, collaborative team • Gain exposure to real-world infrastructure and business-critical systems • Clear progression into infrastructure, automation, or engineering roles • Opportunity to take ownership and influence improvements • Fast-paced environment where IT has direct business impact Benefits • Competitive salary + bonus potential • Enhanced pension with salary sacrifice • Private health insurance & life assurance • 33 days holiday (including bank holidays) • Sabbatical after 5 years If you’re passionate about technology, enjoy solving problems, and want to build a long-term career in IT, we’d love to hear from you.
