Junior Accountant
Location: Oxford
Salary: £28,000 - £33,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent
The Opportunity
We are recruiting on behalf of a growing accountancy practice looking to add a Junior Accountant to its expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong bookkeeping background who is looking to develop their accounting career within a supportive and professional environment.
You'll work closely with experienced accountants, gaining exposure to a wide range of clients while building your technical knowledge and developing your career.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients using cloud-based accounting software.
• Process sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts and payments.
• Perform regular bank reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with HMRC deadlines.
• Assist with month-end and year-end bookkeeping processes.
• Maintain purchase and sales ledgers.
• Prepare basic management information for review by senior team members.
• Liaise with clients to obtain financial information and answer day-to-day bookkeeping queries.
• Support the preparation of year-end accounts by ensuring financial records are complete and accurate.
• Assist with general finance and administrative tasks as required.
About You
• Previous experience in a bookkeeping, accounts assistant or junior accounting role.
• Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principles.
• Experience using cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills.
• Comfortable working with multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with clients.
• AAT qualified or currently studying towards AAT/ACCA/ACA would be advantageous but is not essential.
