A fantastic opportunity for a Lead Buyer - Construction has arisen to join a leading organisation. You'll be embedded within a growing procurement infrastructure team, supporting a long-term, high-value investment programme delivering complex construction and infrastructure projects across the North West.
This role focuses on supporting end-to-end procurement and commercial activities across major construction packages, ensuring strong supplier engagement, robust tendering processes, and successful delivery aligned to programme objectives.
Role - Lead Buyer - Construction
Location - Barrow-in-Furness / Preston (2 days onsite p/week)
Type - Permanent position
Salary - Competitive + travel expenses/overnight accommodation
Key responsibilities of the Senior Buyer / Lead Buyer - Construction role include:
• Supporting the delivery of procurement activities across construction and infrastructure works (civils, buildings, and associated packages)
• Assisting in end-to-end procurement including market engagement, tendering, evaluation, and contract award
• Working closely with project stakeholders to align procurement strategy with programme timelines and delivery requirements
• Evaluating tender submissions including pricing, commercial assumptions, and scope compliance
• Supporting supplier and contractor engagement throughout the procurement lifecycle
• Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities within procurement activity
• Contributing to cost-focused discussions including value engineering and budget optimisation
• Ensuring procurement governance, compliance, and documentation standards are met
Key skills and experience required Senior Buyer / Lead Buyer - Construction include:
• Eligibility to gain UK (SC) security clearance is required due to project requirements
• Experience within construction, infrastructure, or project-led environments in a commercial, procurement, or supply chain capacity
• Understanding of standard construction contracts such as NEC, JCT, FIDIC (or equivalent)
• Knowledge of procurement and commercial principles supporting project delivery
• Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, programme-driven environment
• Strong analytical and commercial awareness with attention to detail
• Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• A proactive, team-oriented mindset with the ability to support complex project delivery
