Job description

Lead Software Architect - Cambridge Salary up to £91k dependent on experience 2-3 days per week on site Lead Software Architect required for a leading client based in Cambridge. This senior role will take ownership of software architecture and delivery across a key product or platform area, turning product priorities and solution designs into scalable, well-architected software. You'll act as the link between product, solution design and engineering, ensuring the technical direction is clear, maintainable and aligned to wider strategy. The role will also lead software engineering teams, support hands-on delivery where needed, and drive the adoption of AI-enhanced engineering practices to improve quality and throughput. Key skills and responsibilities • Strong senior-level software architecture experience, including service-oriented, event-driven and API-first design. • Good knowledge of cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code. • Understanding of secure development, authentication, authorisation and data protection. • Experience working in Agile/DevOps environments with distributed engineering teams. • Practical knowledge of AI-assisted development tools, including benefits and risks. • Proven experience as a Lead/Senior Architect, Principal Engineer or similar, owning a product or platform end to end. • Strong engineering background, with experience building and shipping large-scale production systems. • Hands-on knowledge of modern technologies, including TypeScript, Node.js, Vue.js or React. • Ability to design scalable, secure and resilient solutions aligned to business needs. • Experience leading distributed teams, including offshore, nearshore or contract engineers. • Able to translate product and solution designs into clear engineering delivery. • Pragmatic problem-solver with strong decision-making and delivery focus. • Clear communicator, confident challenging and influencing across teams.
