Learning Support Assistant (BSL) – Secondary School Fixed-Term Contract (1 Year from September hours per week | Term Time Only + INSET Days Salary: Grade 5/6 depending on experience – £26,403 FTE (approx. £19,980 pro rata) An inclusive and ambitious secondary school in West Sussex is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Support Assistant with British Sign Language (BSL) skills to join its specialist support team. This rewarding role involves providing 1:1 and small group support to Deaf and hard of hearing students, helping them to access the curriculum, participate fully in school life, and achieve their academic, social and emotional potential. About the Role Working under the guidance of senior leaders and the SEND team, you will: • Use BSL to facilitate communication between students, staff and peers. • Support Deaf and hard of hearing students in lessons and around the school environment. • Adapt learning materials and classroom activities to meet individual needs. • Promote independence, confidence and engagement in learning. • Support communication during breaktimes, extracurricular activities and educational visits. • Work collaboratively with teachers, leaders, parents and external professionals. • Provide personal care support where required, following appropriate training and guidance. What We're Looking For The successful candidate will: • Hold a minimum BSL Level 2 qualification (Level 3 desirable). • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Be patient, calm, resilient and adaptable. • Be passionate about supporting young people with additional needs. • Be able to build positive relationships with students and staff. • Have strong organisational skills and the ability to work on their own initiative. • Ideally have experience working with Deaf students or within an educational, care or support setting.
