Maintenance Assistant - Rolling Stock

Job location: Crofton, Wakefield Job title: Maintenance Assistant Shift Pattern: 4on 4off days and nights Hours per week: 40 hours average Pay Rate (per hour): £20.07 PAYE/£26.08 Umbrella Duration: Ongoing contract Start date: ASAP Industries considered: Automotive, Rolling Stock, Aerospace. Disciplines considered: Mechanically biased, HGV Technician, Ex Forces Mechanical Technician - Tanks/Excavator, Heavy Plant Technician - JCB/HGV/TRAINS Client Summary: My client based in Crofton requires Maintenance Assistants. The role is within the Rail Industry so will require candidates from a similar background. Position Summary: Working under their own initiative, to carry out routine maintenance, repair and basic fault finding work on the DEMU Class 180 Fleets. Job Profile - Safety Critical / Safety Related: * Routine rail vehicle maintenance as per laid down Vehicle Maintenance Instruction (VMI) * Assist Technicians as required. * Where trained and competent Tyre Turn on the Wheel Lathe in accordance with laid down specifications. * Operation of powered plant, lifting and mechanical handling equipment. * Where trained and competent move vehicles around the site. * Operation of Battery Charging/Shore Supply equipment. * Maintenance of plant. * Drive road vehicles as required. * Compliance with all laid down H&S legislation and depot procedures to ensure a safe accident free environment. Responsible for keeping the work area clean and tidy and to the highest standard at all times. * Required to continually look at opportunities to adopt and develop continuous improvement techniques Additional Tasks May Include: * Bogie exchange * Calliper changes * Axle changes * Traction motors * Carden shafts * Power pack drop (Engine) * Compressors * Air dryers * Fuel tanks * Excitations [PIMS] * Permanent and Auto couplers * TPCU * Cab changes * Full door changes * Seats * Floor renewal * Toilet tank exchange (Alongside TBM) * Fresh water tanks * Mechanical Mods * Sander Mods * Following technical drawing, followed up with testing * Various maintenance visits such as compressor oil changes, air dryer pressure valve, final drive oil sampling and changes and brake pad checks and changes Education level - * NVQ Level 3 or equivalent is a must.
