Job description

Our client, a well known manufacturing business is currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a well-established manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically minded individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced production environment, carrying out maintenance, repairs, installations, and continuous improvement activities to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical maintenance background within manufacturing, production, or industrial environments and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a maintenance team. Key Responsibilities • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on manufacturing machinery and production equipment. • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise production downtime. • Strip, repair, overhaul, and rebuild mechanical components including gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, bearings, and motors. • Install, align, and commission new machinery and equipment. • Conduct reactive maintenance in response to equipment breakdowns. • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and schematics. • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety procedures. • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to improve equipment reliability and efficiency. • Work closely with production teams to maintain operational performance. • Complete maintenance documentation accurately using maintenance management systems where applicable. • Assist with shutdowns, machine upgrades, and project work as required. Skills & Experience Required • Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, or similar role. • Background working within manufacturing, production, FMCG, heavy industry, food manufacturing, automotive, packaging, or industrial environments. • Experience carrying out both preventative and reactive maintenance. • Ability to fault-find and diagnose mechanical issues efficiently. • Competent in using workshop tools and precision measuring equipment. • Ability to read engineering drawings. • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach. • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
