Medical Secretary / Administrator Employer: ICO Health Group Location: Downham Health & Leisure Centre BR1 5EP Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: Dependant on Experience Hours: 37 hours per week About Us ICO Health Group is a busy, patient-focused GP practice committed to delivering high-quality healthcare services to our local community. We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Medical Secretary/Administrator to join our friendly and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with substantial NHS General Practice experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to providing exceptional administrative support to both clinicians and patients. Main Duties of the Job The successful candidate will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the clinical team, ensuring efficient management of referrals, correspondence, and patient records. Key responsibilities will include: • Processing and managing referrals through the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) • Typing, preparing and processing clinical correspondence • Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, including hospital letters and reports • Monitoring referral pathways and following up outstanding appointments and outcomes • Liaising with hospitals, community services, patients, and external healthcare providers • Maintaining accurate patient records and updating clinical systems • Supporting the practice with administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of services • Handling confidential information in accordance with GDPR and NHS policies • Assisting patients with referral-related queries in a professional and courteous manner About You Essential Criteria: • Minimum of 5 years' experience working within an NHS GP Practice • Previous experience as a Medical Secretary and Administration in Primary Care • Excellent knowledge of NHS referral processes and the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) • Strong understanding of medical terminology • Experience using GP clinical systems such as EMIS Web and Docman • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to prioritise workload and work independently under pressure • Competent in Microsoft Office applications Desirable Criteria: • Experience in a multi-site GP practice • Knowledge of QOF, enhanced services, and primary care pathways • Experience supporting GP partners and wider multidisciplinary teams What We Offer • Competitive salary dependent on experience • NHS Pension Scheme • Supportive and friendly working environment • Annual leave entitlement in line with NHS terms and conditions • Free parking Additional Information Please note that applications will only be considered from candidates who can demonstrate a minimum of 5 years' NHS General Practice experience.
