Mental Health Teaching Assistant | Primary School | Redbridge, London Location: Redbridge, London Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term (September 2026 - July 2027) with a Permanent Contract from August 2027 Start Date: September 2026 Pay: £92-£120 per day (dependent on experience) Are you passionate about supporting children's emotional wellbeing and helping them overcome barriers to learning? A caring and inclusive primary school in Redbridge is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. You'll work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships within the classroom. This long-term role offers the opportunity to secure a permanent position from August 2027 for the right candidate. The Role As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will: • Support pupils with their emotional wellbeing and social development. • Build positive relationships with children who need additional encouragement. • Assist teachers in creating a calm, structured and inclusive classroom. • Deliver one-to-one and small group support where appropriate. • Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils develop confidence and independence. • Work alongside teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams to meet individual needs. The Ideal Candidate We're looking for someone who: • Has a genuine interest in children's mental health and wellbeing. • Is open to applicants with experience or graduates looking to gain school-based experience. • Demonstrates patience, empathy and excellent communication skills. • Can remain calm and positive in challenging situations. • Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a supportive school team. • Is considering a future career in education, psychology, counselling or similar fields (desirable but not essential).
