Newly Qualified Practice Nurse

The practice is committed to supporting the successful candidate to develop within the role. Training and opportunities for further development will be encouraged, allowing the post holder to build confidence and competence across the full range of general practice nursing services. The post holder will be expected to maintain their professional development, complete mandatory training and actively contribute to maintaining excellent standards of patient care. Your main duties include: • Providing a high standard of nursing care to patients, including clinical assessment, screening, treatment, health advice and follow-up care within professional boundaries. • Working collaboratively with GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants and wider healthcare teams to provide coordinated and effective patient care. • Support the management of patients with long-term conditions, including asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions, following appropriate training and competency development. • Undertake routine nursing procedures including wound care, wound assessment, phlebotomy, health checks, blood pressure monitoring, urinalysis, BMI checks, health screening and preventative care. • Support immunisation programmes and administer vaccinations and injections in line with appropriate training, patient group directions and clinical guidance. • Promote health and wellbeing through lifestyle advice, preventative healthcare and supporting patients to make informed choices about their health. • Develop skills in additional areas of primary care nursing, which may include cervical screening, sexual health, family planning, travel health, ear care and child health services. • Provide holistic, person-centred care, considering the physical, emotional and social needs of patients and referring to appropriate services, including social prescribing where required. • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with practice policies, NMC standards and confidentiality requirements. • Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, audits, risk management, infection prevention and control processes to support safe and effective patient care. • Participate in clinical supervision, training, appraisal and continuing professional development to maintain and enhance clinical skills and knowledge. • Work within the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and ensure all practice is compliant with professional, organisational and legal requirements. • Communicate effectively with patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals, providing clear information and support regarding care and treatment. • Support and contribute to the development of the wider nursing team, including assisting with the supervision and support of healthcare assistants and other colleagues where appropriate. • Participate in practice meetings, service development activities and improvement projects to support the delivery of high-quality primary care services.
