Job description

LGS Vision Recruitment are supporting a forward-thinking growing firm of accountants who are based in the City of London with a Outsourcing Assistant position. Our outsourcing team acts as the day-to-day finance function for a portfolio of clients effectively, an extension of their internal team. As an Assistant Accountant you’ll keep their books accurate and up to date, support the month end close, and be a friendly, dependable point of contact whenever they need something. It’s a varied role with real client exposure. You’ll juggle several clients at once, work closely with a supportive team, and have the chance to develop your technical skills alongside your studies. Responsibilities: Transaction Processing and Bank Reconciliations • Accurately process financial transactions including sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts and payments within client accounting systems. • Perform regular bank reconciliations across multiple client accounts to ensure financial records align with bank statements. • Investigate and resolve discrepancies or missing transactions promptly. Ledger Maintenance • Maintain and update purchase, sales and nominal ledgers to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data. • Ensure transactions are correctly coded and allocated to the appropriate accounts. • Help maintain clean, well-organised accounting records for each client. Month-End Close and Reconciliations • Assist with the monthly close process across the client portfolio. • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring supporting schedules are accurate and up to date. • Reconcile key control accounts — bank, VAT, payroll, prepayments and accruals — where required. • Support the preparation of monthly management information by ensuring financial records are complete and accurate. • Identify and investigate unusual balances or variances and escalate where appropriate. Management Accounts • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly management accounts, ensuring schedules, accruals, prepayments and journals are complete and supportable. • Conduct variance analysis (vs. budget, prior period and forecast) and write clear, commercial commentary tailored to each client. • Use the management accounts as a platform for advisory conversations — surfacing trends, risks and opportunities the client should act on. Client Finance Function Support • Managing client finance inboxes and monitoring incoming financial communications. • Responding to queries from suppliers, staff and other client stakeholders. • Processing incoming invoices, receipts and payment requests. • Communicating with clients to request missing information or clarify financial transactions. • Monitoring outstanding items and following up on missing documentation or approvals. • Helping clients keep their financial records accurate and up to date. Skills & Experience: Experience and Qualifications • Previous experience in a bookkeeping, assistant accountant or finance assistant role - ideally within an accountancy practice or outsourced finance environment. • Experience supporting multiple clients or entities at the same time is desirable. • Studying towards (or holding) an accounting qualification such as AAT or equivalent is preferred. Technical Skills • Hands-on experience with cloud-based accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar. • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas, data organisation and reconciliation tasks. • Familiarity with VAT processes, bank reconciliations and ledger maintenance. • Experience with expense management systems, receipt-processing tools or document-management platforms is a bonus. Organisation and Attention to Detail • Strong attention to detail and pride in keeping financial records accurate. • A knack for spotting discrepancies and resolving them efficiently. • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple client deadlines and priorities at once. Package: • Starting Salary £25,000 - £35,000 • 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays • Hybrid working - 1 day per week • Study support • Company bonuses • Private medical cover • Season ticket loan For more information, please contact Liam Snell at LGS Vision Recruitment.
