Job description

Elevation Recruitment Group are pleased to be working in partnership with a successful manufacturing business in their search for a Paint Shop Manager, to lead a significant division within their operation. This role is a mixture of being a technical authority within the team, ensuring the highest standards of coating quality, compliance, and efficiency whilst being a people leader, coaching and developing the team to meet world class status. Responsibilities: • Lead and manage the paint shop team to hit production output and quality targets • Build team capability through hands-on coaching, structured training, and clear performance management • Set and maintain department standards, documented procedures, and individual accountability • Champion a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement across the team • Support recruitment activity, new starter onboarding, and longer-term succession planning • Serve as the go-to technical authority on all painting and coating processes • Oversee surface preparation, coating application, and curing operations from start to finish • Ensure full compliance with applicable specifications including ISO standards and customer requirements • Diagnose coating defects, identify root causes, and drive corrective action • Develop and maintain painting procedures and quality benchmarks on an ongoing basis • Manage material sourcing, product selection, and day-to-day supplier relationships • Ensure paint plant and equipment is maintained, utilised effectively, and fit for purpose • Lead internal audits and maintain compliance across all HSEQ requirements Experience Required: • Thorough experience in an industrial painting or surface coating environment • Strong working knowledge of surface preparation methods and coating systems • Proven leadership experience gained within a manufacturing setting • Comfortable operating across both the technical and people management sides of the role • Good grasp of quality standards, defect identification, and root cause analysis • Used to working within production schedules and reporting against KPIs • Sector experience in heavy metal fabrication, power generation, oil and gas, or a comparable environment • Familiar with coating specifications including ISO 12944 • Experience managing or participating in audits and inspection programmes • Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools such as Lean and 5S • A natural leader who can influence, motivate, and develop people at all levels • Detail-focused with a genuine commitment to getting the quality right The company are looking for a specialist within their field, and have a salary & package to match the specialist need.
